SDG Triathlon 2006

This is the first mixed-game tournament. We will start with a triathlon and see how long that takes. The games for this tournament will be:

  • Pulling Strings
  • Homeworlds
  • Alien City

Design

  • The tournament will be a standard, 6 round, Swiss tournament.
  • In the spirit of Swim-Bike-Run, all games will be played consecutively.
  • The games will be played as follows:
      • 2 rounds of Pulling Strings
      • 2 rounds of Alien City
      • 2 rounds of Homeworlds
  • This should result in a tournament length of about 3 months.
  • Ties will be resolved by play-off. All tied players will be seeded again in a 3-round, all-game tournament and this process will repeat until a clear victor is decided.
  • A per-round time limit of 30 days is being instituted! This means that regardless of the per-move-timer, if a game has not ended within the one month period (30 days from the start of the round) then the game becomes open to adjudication! It is not expected that this will be a problem in any game other than Homeworlds. By moving Homeworlds to the end of the tournament, it is hoped that most games can go over the 30-day limit without any problems. The concern of the tournament director is to finish the tournament before Christmas.

Q: Who shall make the judgment? (Dralius)

A: Final judgment shall rest with the tournament organizer (That's me.) who will rely on common sense as well as feedback from experienced players. ––– Aaron 11 May 2006 13:49

Q: What happens if a judgment is required in a game you are playing in, will there be an impartial third part to take over for you?(Dralius)

A: In the unlikely case that adjudication is needed in a game in which I am a player, I will ask the current top-rated player for the particular game to make the decision. I do not believe that adjudication will become an issue, to be honest. Moving Homeworlds to the end of the tournament means that any time saved in the previous 4 rounds can be used to allow long games to continue. ––– Aaron 19 May 2006 15:10
